Bad news, voting EN 779:2012 (Filters) disaproved
[2012-02-01]We received the information from CEN that the result of the vote among the CEN Technical Board (CEN-BT) on EN779-2012: Particulate air filters for general ventilation - Determination of the filtration performance was “disapproved”
Total 22 approvals were received so nearly whole Europe and only Italy (UNI) emitted a fundamental disagreement. For a lot of CEN-TC participants who worked for many years on this standard it was disappointed and frustrated to hear that only one country can block their voluntary work done so far.
We understood that it is now up to CEN-BT to decide what to do with the appeal from Italy and hopefully they will do it during the March meeting. We are convinced that CEN-BT will make a wise decision and that the revised EN779 will be soon the new standard.

The REHVA Annual Conference is organized in cooperation with the Romanian Installation Engineers Association (AIIR) and the Romanian General Association for Refrigeration (AGFR) in Hotel Timisoara. It is situated in the cultural and historic centre of Timisoara overlooking the Opera Square.
Eurovent's Position on energy saving potentials by using efficient air filtration and leak tightness ducts (systems)
[2011-12-11]Air filters are related to high consumption of energy by the fans in the ventilation systems. There is a potential saving by using the most efficient air filter, in terms of low pressure drop and efficiency according to European filter standards.
A duct system is the conveyer system of treated air from one location to defined destinations in buildings and it is important that all the air arrives at the destination point/outlet, this means leak tightness ducts.
Based on a top down calculation Eurovent concluded that for air filtration the energy saving potential is 3,150 GWh/year and for ducts 29,550 GWh/year so totally nearly 33,000 GWh/year.
For more detailed information see read more: Position Paper COM 11011.1
This saving potential cannot be ignored by the consultant who is doing the preparatory study for the 2nd Energy related Product program 2012-2014 and the Commission.
For the second stakeholder meeting January 20th Eurovent submitted its position to the consultant VHK-The Netherlands and the policy officer Mrs Kirsi Ekroth-Manssila from DG-ENTR.
To support the consultant and the Commission Eurovent is willing to do the preparatory study.
Second call - 10th IIF/IIR Gustaf Lorentzen Conference on Natural Refrigerants
[2011-10-14]The KNVvK, the host of the 2012 event welcomes you to the next biennial conference on Natural Refrigerents, GL2012 Delft, The Netherlands, 25-27 June 2012.
Theme: Natural Refrigerants
The IIR’s Gustav Lorentzen conferences are acclaimed as the leading cutting-edge series of events covering all natural refrigerants. These events enable participants to keep abreast of progress and trends in this field.
Evaporative Cooling Towers
[2011-09-11]Eurovent is very pleased to release their new publication 9-7:
Recommended code of practice to keep your cooling systems efficient and safe.Guidlines for the Prevention of Uncontrolled Bacteriological Contamination, including Legionella Pneumophila, in Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers.
Evaporative cooling is an efficient and cost effective means of removing heat from air onditioning, refrigeration and industrial process cooling systems, based on a natural principle by making use of adiabatic cooling with or without latent heat transfer. Evaporative cooling combines high thermal efficiency and cost effectiveness by achieving low cooling temperatures with minimum energy and water usage. Low cooling temperatures are essential for many processes to achieve high system efficiency.

Eurovent publication 4/11
[2011-06-24]Eurovent is very pleased to release their new publication 4/11:
FILTERS: Energy efficiency classification of air filters for general ventilation purpose.
In the context of increasing energy prices and the imperative of reducing CO2 emissions, the energy consumption related to air filters has become the focus of attention. Currently, air filters are classified only by their average particle collection efficiency according to the European standard EN 779. The aim of this guideline is to define a method of air filter classification with regard to energy-efficient operation.

Eurovent publication 1/12
[2011-06-20]Eurovent is very pleased to release at the ISH-Frankfurt the Eurovent publication 1/12:
FANS: Sources of Error in Aerodynamic System Resistance and Acoustic Calculation.Even a careful pre-calculation of the expected pressure losses in a system may lead to results that differ considerably from the actual values found in the system when built. This may have negative effects on the power consumption and the noise level of the installation. This publication is an answer to the most common sources of error and where possible, information is included to enable a more exact pre-calculation of losses.
With this publication Eurovent took her responsibility again in her commitment to contribute to the environmental objectives defined by the European Union of 20% reduction in energy consumption, 20% reduction in CO2 emissions and to reach a minimum of 20% usage of renewable energy in the European Union.

Interview with Yannick Lu-Cotrelle, Eurovent Market Intelligence Manager
[2010-07-01]
“Today, we are the leading body in the industry collecting real sales data from the manufacturers for EMEA countries”
Market intelligence for the industry
[2010-07-01]European HVAC&R companies join forces to provide reliable market data
There is no doubt: reliable data are absolutely indispensable to make the right decisions, whether it concerns product management in companies or legislators making the rules for the future of our industry. The difficulty is to collect these data in a strongly segmented sector which is made up of all types of companies from small and medium sized enterprises to large international groups.
European-wide certification, standards and European directives on energy efficiency
[2010-07-01]
A European certification scheme for air handling and refrigeration equipment was launched in 1994, which purpose is to verify performances declared in catalogues, by testing samples in independent laboratories. Besides, energy efficiency labelling (A-G) is nowadays mandatory on the European market for many goods, including residential air conditioners. This mark is now well known by the general public. Therefore, in order to promote efficiency also for industrial equipment, Eurovent Certification is extending labelling to a larger scope.
